Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.0 release date once again confirmed for Feb 21st

While RIM has already slipped up once and given us the goods during their PlayBook NDK WebCast, we're once again getting confirmation that Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0 will arrive on Feb. 21st. This time around though, there is some documentation to go along with it and as noted above, it will be rolling out bright and early in the morning.

In addition to Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.0, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion will be made available and noted previously -- FaceBook for PlayBook will get an update as well for bug fixes and compatability for Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.0. When it comes to Blackberry Bridge 2.0, previously it was set for release on Feb. 20th but we're now hearing that may be delayed to conincide with the Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0 launch. Rather then letting it go out the day before and have people trying functions that will not work due to the fact they don't yet have Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0.

New HTC One X details leak, on-screen buttons, Beats speaker dock, no microSD

Tonight Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo provided some additional details of the HTC One X, which is quickly shaping up as one of the most anticipated Android smartphones this year.

HTC One X full specifications leaked before MWC

We’ve been drooling over the newly-christened HTC One X (formerly the Endeavor and/or Edge) for months now, due in no small part to its ultra high-end rumored specifications. Paul “Modaco“ O’Brien has got a mostly complete list of specifications from a tipster, including all the nitty gritty details you’ve been wondering about. First of all, the shiniest jewel in the One X’s crown is a quad-core Tegra 3 processor from Nvidia, which should help the phone rocket to the top of the speed charts if nothing else. The Tegra 3 runs at 1.5Ghz, and is supplimented with a full gigabyte of RAM.

Lumia 610 budget Windows Phone passes certification in Indonesia

We've touched on the Lumia 610 (or 601 as it was referred to) previously, which is set to be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2012 and will be powered by Windows Phone "Tango". LiveSide has received confirmation that the Nokia handset has passed through certification in Indonesia (as shown above).

Although not much detail is displayed, we do know that this device does indeed exist, which will make MWC fairly exciting with the unveiling of Microsoft's next Windows Phone update "Tango". As well as featuring the usual Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, the Lumia 610 will support GSM 900/1800 and WCDMA 2100 bands.

As we’re heading closer to Mobile World Congress 2012, where Microsoft is expected to announce details of their next update of Windows Phone, codenamed “Tango”, more details about the update are leaking out. Today Russion website WP7forum.ru leaked several screenshots from “Tango”, revealing several new features as well as detailing how “Tango” will support low-cost devices with limited RAM.

Apple Renames Mac OS X to OS X, Contemplating to Combine iOS and Mac OS

Apple has officially renamed Mac OS X to just OS X with the release of OS X Mountain Lion. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple was going to move as much functionality as possible from the iPhone and iOS to the Mac.

We have called the famous operating system by Apple, "Mac" for eons. The mouthful that we have called Mac OS X for so long is now officially deemed OS X in the new release of OS X Mountain Lion that developers have been able to get their hands on today by Apple. The screenshot above displays the 'About this Mac' area of both Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8. These are the official names and it is not some sort of fluke.

Android 5.0 Jelly Bean Reportedly Set For Summer 2012 Launch

The latest version of the Android operating system, known as Ice Cream Sandwich, was originally displayed to the world in May of last year before being showcased on the Galaxy Nexus smartphone in five months later in October. Four months down the line and it seems that only approximately 1% of Android devices are running versions of Android 4.0, bring about big concerns and showing that the adoption of the latest OS has been a lot slower than expected.

With that in mind, it seemed unlikely that at this stage we would be treated to rumors that Google look set to release a successor to Ice Cream Sandwich in June of this year, known as Jelly Bean. With Microsoft getting set to release its brand new Windows 8 operating system in the third quarter of 2012, the speculation suggests that Google are looking for an end of quarter two release for Jelly Bean to provide competition for Windows 8.

Apple has just announced a preview of the next major version of their Mac operating system, OS X 10.8. It’s called Mountain Lion. The preview is available now and the full version, with over 100 new features, will ship this summer.

“The Mac is on a roll, growing faster than the PC for 23 straight quarters, and with Mountain Lion things get even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The developer preview of Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the incredibly successful release of Lion and sets a rapid pace of development for the world’s most advanced personal computer operating system.”

Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update rolling out for the Acer Iconia A200

If you've got an Acer Iconia A200, and have a bit of thirst for Ice Cream Sandwich, you're in luck.  The latest and greatest Android OS update is rolling out now via an OTA update and it brings the device to version 4.0.3. We've seen ICS for the Iconia A200 leaked before, but this update is a bit different (version number wise) than the previous ones we have seen. 

The Acer Iconia A200, is a 10.1 inch Android tablet featuring a 1280X800 resolution. The A200 is powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor and carries either 8 or 16GB of memory on board, depending on your preference. The device launched back at the end of January and at that time we were promised that the ICS update would follow, and here we are not even a full month later and the update is here. With a price point of only $329 for the 8GB version and $349 for the 16GB version you can have a rather inexpensive Ice Cream Sandwich tablet.

The update is slowly rolling out, so you may or may not have already noticed the notification that it is available for download, but if you haven't don't worry you can manually check for the update. If you are unaware of how to check for an update just hop into the settings, scroll down to about tablet, select system update, and check for new updates. Be on the lookout for the manual download location and be sure to sing out in the comments or in the forums if you happen to find it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (US Wifi) OTA update rolling out

There's an OTA update slowly being pushed out for the US Wifi version Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and no it's not Ice Cream Sandwich.  It's a maintenance release of some sort we first saw back in January, and have been hearing a bit of news about it trickling out for the past week or so.  It still doesn't seem to be pushing en masse, but it's picked up enough steam that we're pretty certain pushing it out something they've meant to do.

The particulars are Android 3.2 and build number HTJ85B.UEKMP P7510UEKMP.  Other notable improvements are fixes for email attachment issues, rotation issues, Wifi reconnect issues, other system file force close issues, and improved power consumption.  It also brings the 3.4.4 version of the Android Market, so be sure to delete any shortcuts to the old Market and replace them.

Exclusive: New pre-release BlackBerry 10 OS images surface - homescreen widgets make their BB debut!

Following up the first-look image of a BlackBerry 10 phone crackberry posted two weeks ago, today the good ol' CrackBerry tip line received a pretty *interesting* email, to which was attached a 14-page .pdf file full of Cracktastic goodness. The document was clearly prepared by one of RIM's external ad agency partners as a BB10 briefing document, providing background information on BlackBerry 10 and outlining some of the OS features and ideas for how to position BlackBerry 10 in future advertising campaigns. BlackBerry 10 Phones may be months away still, but judging by the document it appears the behind-the-scenes work to begin marketing the next-generation of BlackBerry phones is already well under way.

Of course, the best part of the document wasn't what was written, but rather what was shown -- including some juicy OS imagery pointing to some of the things we can potentially expect to see in BlackBerry 10.
